Terms of service

This is the agreement between you and Salam Signal. Please read it alongside our privacy policy.

Last updated August 2026

1. About these terms

These terms are between you and Aasim Khan, who operates Salam Signal as an individual (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. What Salam Signal is

Salam Signal gives you two things: a private record of a hate incident that you control, and a way to alert people you trust if you are in danger. It is a personal tool. It is not a way to report to the police, and it is not a substitute for the emergency services.

3. Your account

You set up an account with a name you choose and a phone number. Keep your sign-in details and your device secure, and let us know if you think someone else has access to your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 16 years old to use Salam Signal.

4. Using it responsibly

Please use Salam Signal only for its purpose. In particular:

  • Add someone as a trusted contact only if it is reasonable for them to receive an alert from you.
  • Do not use the app to harass, threaten, or mislead anyone.
  • Do not attempt to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service.

5. The panic feature, and its limits

When you hold the SOS button, Salam Signal sends a text message to your confirmed trusted contacts, including your location if you have allowed it. It does not contact the police, ambulance, or any emergency service for you.

Message delivery depends on mobile networks and on your contacts' phones, which are outside our control, so we cannot guarantee that an alert will arrive or be seen. In any emergency, call 999.

6. Your reports and your privacy

Your reports belong to you. They are encrypted and stay private unless you choose to share them. How we handle your information is set out in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep Salam Signal running, but we may update, pause, or change parts of it, and we may need to carry out maintenance. If we make a material change to these terms, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.

8. Our responsibility to you

We provide Salam Signal with reasonable care. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under law, or our responsibility for things that cannot be excluded. Beyond that, we are not responsible for events outside our reasonable control, such as network failures that stop a message being delivered.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using Salam Signal and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and will explain why where we can.

10. Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.

11. How to reach us

Questions about these terms are welcome, and you can reach us from within the app.
